  1. My Dad died just a couple of weeks ago. The weekend of Thanksgiving, I asked my Mom if we could donate his t-shirts, underwear and socks to the soup kitchen that we always minister at on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Of course this was a difficult thing to ask, but she said yes. My husband took all of them that Sunday, and they were all given to needy men and boys in the Woodlawn community of Birmingham, Alabama. They served over 150 people lunch that day. I think my Dad would have liked the idea that his things were serving those in need.

  2. I went to a McDonald’s one morning and I saw an old man sitting by himself eating breakfast he didn’t look that kempt. I wanted to have the time to sit down and eat with him but I didn’t so I bought him a $30 gift card to the McDonald’s so that he can enjoy breakfast on me for several days!!!!

  3. Collecting socks for the homeless. A program called toe2toe, located in Montreal. Ladies Volleyball team and extended friends have collected more than 60 pairs of socks ! Socks are the most requested items for the homeless, but it is the least donated item to the homeless population.

  4. We Moved into a house this past summer across the Street from the brightest, sweetest 94 year old women who lives alone. Yes we help her. We take her trash to the road my husband does repairs, I weed her flower beds, we bring her goodies, ice when the power went out, called the the phone company when her phone went down, went to her door at 10:30 pm when we heard gun shots in the neighborhood, because we know she hears everything. Most importantly we take time to sit with her and just talk. She has given us these opportunities to help her and to love her. In the mere 5 months we have known her she has become a very meaningful part of our life. She is grateful for us and believes God sent us. I’m sure she is an angel and was sent to us. The more you give the more you get back. Lessons from Mary Lois : 1.do what you enjoy 2.keep going and trying new things 3. Play in the dirt!

  5. Donating gifts for less fortunate children who otherwise may not received anything at Christmas time.
