As an academic at Kaplan Business School Australia, I am working as a volunteer mentor, and every trimester, I get a student as a mentee to help with their career and personal progression. Today, I was assigned a female student who was a medical practitioner in her home country but is now following a different degree in Australia, willing to settle here. She seems to be giving up on her dreams and settling for an associate-level job, thinking that she is not good enough in her studies and incapable of passing the exams. I really want to motivate her with the success stories I know about women who have realised their dreams by working hard and passing the required exams to become medical practitioners in Australia.
I was able to encourage her and help her find the textbook she needed. I also promised to find more information for her. Our session lasted longer than expected, and I felt that I was doing the right thing by supporting her rather than letting her give up on her dream.
Coordinated and arranged for a truck and mover to retrieve a mother and her daughter’s personal items following a family breakdown. Provided emotional support during the process.
Creating an It’s in the bag
Today I sat next to someone in my class who was looking lonely. He was happy to have me sit next to him and thanked me after class of doing so.
“I don’t have many friends in this class, but you have made this class a whole lot better for me,” He said
I feel really grateful to have made someone feel more comfortable in class.
I was in a waiting room and the doors are very heavy. An old man came out with a walker, I held the door open for him. A very small thing but made me feel good
