Our city was heavily flooded recently. I picked up a friend from her house (her car couldn’t go through any water) and drove her to night shift (ED nurse) then she and her dog stayed with us for a couple of nights until they were able to return home.

I know an old bloke with a backyard swimming pool who has spent the best part of his lifetime saving whatever insects have the unfortunate experience of dropping into his pool. That results in their untimely demise unless he spots them in trouble and pulls them out with his trusty pool scoop or whatever’s handy.. He reckons he has saved thousands of insects over the past 50 years and has a particular penchant for salvaging bees from their untimely death.
Moths, cicadas, butterfly’s, ants, beetles, spiders………all the same to him and even the old cockroach gets his attention.
So here’s to him and here’s to those many many insects who have dried themselves off in the Aussie sun and flown off to live and fight another day
