I am in an Uber right now and my very nice driver says: “may I ask you a question” I reply, “of course”. He asks “how do I find a job in this country? I am a mechanical engineer who emigrated here from Kabul Afghanistan two years ago and I am struggling to find a job.” I pause for a moment at the magnitude of this persons immediate and very real need; then it hits me: Upwardly Global is exactly what he needs right now. I explain the group to him then send him their link and directions to their DC office. Thank you Tony for introducing me to Upwardly Global an incredible group helping immigrants and refugees.
I saw an elderly lady sitting by herself and went and talked to her. She was lonely . I gave her the magazine I had just purchased.
I work in a catholic school and each year we have a theme. This year it’s Choose Kindness. As a result of one of our teachers promoting kindness and giving it a lot of air time in her classroom she inspired some of our year five boys to perform a beautiful act of kindness. We raise money each year for Caritas, project compassion. This year a group of year 5 boys at our school independently decided to sell their drawings and donate proceeds to Project Compassion. Not only did they take time to draw but they also gave up their time to sell the drawings on a Saturday morning at the local shops. They raised a substantial amount of money which gave a healthy boost to our overall school donations. It truly was a beautiful act of kindness. I am grateful for the inspirational work of our year 5 teacher and for the kindness of our year 5 boys. Thank you
Our job is constant pressure, I made care packages with pick me up coffee sachets, chocolate and corny bon-bon jokes for comic relief, to ease a tough day. They brought smiles and joy to those who received them.
