On the day I lost my job to Covid. I gave the last $20 cash in my wallet to the man who sells the Big Issue at the train station. He is always so happy, greeting everyone, wishing them a great day as they pass by and ignore him.
I knew I wasn’t going to be seeing him on my way to work for a while, like a lot of people… which meant that his struggle was about to get a lot harder. Figured he needed the cash more than me. By the look on his face, a little kindness made his morning a bit brighter.
I reached out to my neighbour to go for a walk as I know she is struggling at home with the kids. She was so grateful and we got to talk about a lot of things she is struggling with. I feel like I have helped her.
Providing advice to leaders on how to help their team stay calm and connected in this crisis
With other volunteers we walk about 4 km with stray and abandoned dogs every morning at the local animal shelter, socialising them giving them time, the chance to play and love. After that spending time with the abandoned, stray and surrendered cats to socialise them so they will be more likely to be adopted. Furry prozac for us, fun and a break from the boredom of a cage for them.
I’m encouraging my work colleagues to (while still maintaining social distancing) to group hug at the end of the day! It’s a nice way to reconnect.
